Justin Rose. 2013 U.S. Open at Merion G C . USAssJustin pointed and looked to the Heavens as he dedicated his win to his recently departed Father. This moment was captured by the World's greatest Golf photographers and I used many of their images as inspiration for my painting. This painting and another (see pix) were commissioned by Martin Williams, a keen golfer that many of you will know. I'd like to say. " Many thanks" to Martin. The commission comes at a time when things are harder and is much appreciated. It was a pleasure to paint for someone who leaves the artist alone to produce his better work. It always works that way. The second painting was a split image work. Hogan at Merion on the Left and Rose on the right with the Merion Logo centre. The request was, to paint the champions with a sepia like feel. I must admit the Hogan was a breeze and the Justin Rose much harder because of the face he pulled mid swing and because of the size. The face was painted with 3 hairs on the brush! Minatures are not my speciality! It was a fun task and Martin was very happy with the two paintings. For the interest of artists. They were painted on MDF as I wanted a totally smooth surface. A canvas weave would have made the second painting harder. 3 coats of Gesso and three of Acrylic with matt medium added. I lightly sanded the boards in between then roughed the second one up after painting the portraits. I believe they will both be behind glass so I didn't varnish either. I find even a matt varnish produces a sheen. Any Road Up I hope you like them and as always, welcome your comments. There will be a time lapse video when I have time to join it all together. Keep watching on Twitter.
